Steve
Lunam has owned and ridden motorcycles for over 25 years. It has become
increasingly apparent to him just how many people share his passion for
motorcycling.
"It was joining a local HOG (Harley Owners Group) that really brought home
the old saying, Harley-Davidson is not just a motorcycle, it is a way of
life", Steve remarked. There is something about two wheeled machines of any
make that instantly coverts its operator from a rider to an enthusiast. It
seems that once someone experiences the thrill and exhilaration of
motorcycling, the bug is hard to shake.
Steve also owns and rides classic British motorcycles and it was attending
the funeral of an old mate who had ridden for over fifty years that he
thought it would be a fitting tribute to make the final journey on two
wheels.
Steve set about building a motorcycle hearse using his Harley-Davidson Road
King as the power unit. He approached funeral industry professionals for
advice so that he could build the machine to industry standards. Phil
Shipway from Olsen's Funerals advised on industry requirements and Troy
Hillier from Hillier Design advised on design and supplied the chrome
running gear.
The machine has been awarded for its stunning design from even within the
Harley-Davidson Company.
Steve says that what gives him greatest satisfaction is that he can provide
a vehicle which can be utilised to pay the greatest tribute to a life lived
on two wheels. And the funeral industry has a readily available vehicle to
offer to a grieving family or friends who may be searching for an
appropriate tribute with which to send off their loved one.
